Rowan Douglas, Chairman of Willis Research Network : The Science behind Willis Resilience

17th October 2013, 11:52am

Rowan Douglas, Chairman of Willis Research Network explains how the Willis Resilience Expedition will make an important contribution to the scientific understanding of climate change both within the Antarctic region and the world as a whole.

“The Antarctic is like the canary in the cage for the wider weather system and the data Parker is collecting will then inform the climate and weather models our scientific partners are using, which in turn will inform the models we use to manage capital for insurers and reinsurers around the world.”

-Rowan Douglas, Chairman of Willis Research Network

He highlights how the data that will be collected will contribute to a better understanding and subsequently better planning for the insurance industry going forward. The link between extreme weather conditions and the day-to-day activity of Willis is increasingly becoming more entwined, which Rowan explains is what has motivated Willis to actively do something.
